Twilight – New Born

The pain that was burning my body for three endless days began to abate. I could feel something new. My throat hurt. It also was a sort of burning, but not the familiar one.
I groaned quietly when another flash of pain floated through my neck.
And then I could hear his voice. His soft, beloved velvet voice I heard his voice often the last days, I knew he had never left my bed, but this was the first time I could really understand something.
“Bella?”  He whispered.
I opened my eyes. There he was, lying next to me, his perfect stone face only a few inches away from mine, looking more beautiful as I ever saw him.
“Is it… over?” I asked.
He leaned towards me to listen to my heartbeat. When he must have realized, that there was no heartbeat anymore, he nodded. I was a vampire.
“How do you feel?” he asked. His marble face showed a strange expression. Between sadness and relief.
I thought about my answer for a moment, because I wasn’t sure how I felt. Then I realized, what was burning my throat.
“Thirsty”, I said quietly, nearly ashamed. He smiled.
“That’s normal, trust me”
I looked around. I was in my and Edwards room in our new house in Alaska. It was dark outside. I had no idea what time or day it was.
I sat up and stretched my right arm out in front of me. It was as hard, white and surely as cold as Edward’s. I smiled. I was a vampire.
I rose from my bed and ran to the mirror – thanks to my new vampire speed in less than a second. It was a strange feeling to change places in this speed. I threw a happy look at Edward who was with me within another second. I had a look into the mirror. I really had changed.
My skin was even paler than it was before. My features seemed a little softer than before. My teeth looked whiter than they ever had and – I threw another look at my arms. All my scars from my several accidents had disappeared. Nearly all. James’ bite was still visible.
The most outstanding part though, were my eyes. Their colour had changed from a chocolate brown to a clear, bright red. I looked quiet frightening, I had to admit.
I turned around and looked deep into Edward’s dark, golden eyes. They were still making me melt.
“I love you”, I whispered. He smiled even wider.
“You know”, he began and started kissing my neck; “you still have this adorable smell about you.”
“Really?” this surprised me.
“Not the as strong as before”, he admitted; “but it’s the same. And I love it.”
I turned around and looked at him. He bent forward to press his lips softly on mine. This kiss was different than all the other ones before. He was still careful, but it felt all different. I didn’t know how to describe it. But it was better than every human kiss. It was longer too. Before, we always had to watch out for him not losing is self-control – well, he had watched out.
“I am so happy right now”, I told him.
“I love you”, he just whispered.
At that same moment, there was a knocking at the door.
“Come in”, I said. There was Alice standing in the door frame.
“Bella!” she said pleased but she couldn’t say anything more, because I hugged her the same moment. She was a little astonished, but I could tell she was happy my transformation was over.
She threw a look at Edward. He shook his head slightly.
“What?” I asked, knowing she had mentally put a question.
“Never mind”, she said, still smiling widely at me. “You look… great!”
“Yeah, you know, I’m sort of a vampire now”, I said snickering.
Edward led me downstairs. Carlisle and Esme were already waiting in the hallway, next to the grand piano.
Esme was with me in less than a second. Her face showed the wide, affectionate smile I loved to see. It made me feel at home.
“Where are the others?” I asked. Carlisle, smiling widely as well, answered.
“They are hunting.”
“I’m sure Emmett just wants to delay the arm-wrestling part”, Edward laughed. I could understand that Rosalie, Emmett and Jasper didn’t want to stay at the house. I had been screaming loudly for the last three days. I felt like blushing.
“I reckon it’s best for you to join them”, Carlisle said, more to Edward than to me.
He nodded. I couldn’t believe.
“We’re hunting?” I asked exited. I had always been wondering what hunting animals was like.
I noticed that Alice, Esme and Carlisle left the room – I wouldn’t have as human. They had always been way too quick for me to see.
“Of course Love”, Edward whispered and started to kiss my neck again. “We’ll have to go hunting much more frequently as long as you are so young.”
I smiled. “Is it fun?” I demanded, although I already knew the answer.
I could hear a low laugh in my ear. “Of course it is”
